OUR IMPACT

Nurturing Mental Well-being Through History, Folklore & Nature

The long-term health-related goal of the project is nurturing Mental Well-being through History, Folklore, and Nature to significantly improve the overall positive mental health and well-being of disadvantaged groups.

A group of five people wearing life jackets are smiling and sitting in a small boat on a sunny day. A man in the background gives a thumbs-up while steering the boat. The water and sky are visible in the background.
OUR IMPACT

Helping a “A Healthy Adventure”.

The goal is to create sustainable positive impacts on participants’ mental health, fostering resilience, reducing stress, preventing social isolation and enhancing overall life satisfaction.

We aim to address the visions and goals to increase the proportion of people who are healthy at all stages of life, reduce health inequalities, protect the public from threats to health and wellbeing, and create an environment where every individual and sector of society can play their part in achieving a healthy Ireland, in order to achieve “A Healthy Ireland, where everyone can enjoy physical and mental health and wellbeing to their full potential, where wellbeing is valued and supported at every level of society and is everyone’s responsibility”.

HIDDEN HEARTLANDS

LRAFA Clg Core Principles.

People with disabilities have the same needs for recreation and leisure as people without disabilities; however, they sometimes access more structured leisure activities within disability organisation’s and service providers, thereby reinforcing their segregation from community and friends on occasions.

A smiling boy in a wheelchair is in front of a man wearing a red life vest. They are on a metal boat, with water and greenery visible in the background. Various signs and a sanitizer bottle are visible on the boat.
A small motorboat with a pink roof travels on a vast, calm lake. The water's surface is slightly rippled by the boat's movement. Green trees and a clear sky are visible in the background.
OUR IMPACT

Eliminate this segregation so far as humanly possible.

The provision in the Lough Ree Lake Access for All water-based facility of an integrated ‘sporting’ experience for people with disabilities is a step in the right direction. Activities such as angling will be available on our boat.

Whilst extra supports will be provided for disabled persons, the project will also provide an opportunity for able-bodied persons and disabled persons to play sport together, undertake adventure activities and socialise together.

A man wearing a blue hat and life vest smiles and shakes hands with an elderly man in a blazer on a boat. The elderly man, also smiling, is seated on the right. Sunlight illuminates the scene through the window.
